“I surrendered myself to a brief fantasy during which I imagined sculptures of the two figures in Millet’s ‘Angelus’ carved out of the highest rocks…” – Salvador Dalí
The Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida has recently launched a new virtual reality (VR) experience which aims to immerse visitors inside the work of the great surrealist painter – specifically the artist’s famous 1935 painting Archeological Reminiscence of Millet’s “Angelus.”
‘Dreams of Dalí’ uses Oculus Rift technology to navigate a digital landscape created from the artist’s work. It allows viewers to see certain aspects of the painting in entirely new perspectives – discovering a wonderland of surprises around every corner in a way we can only imagine Dali may have dreamed up.
Created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners the experience is part of ‘Disney and Dalí: Architects of the Imagination” – an enriching multi-media exhibition telling the story of the unlikely alliance between two of the most renowned artists of the twentieth century: Salvador Dali and Walt Disney.
